Blue Grouse Mountain wildfire contained but still under investigation

WEST KELOWNA – The Blue Grouse Mountain wildfire is contained at two hectares as of this morning.

B.C. Wildfire information officer Justine Hunse says the fire is “being held” and “not likely to spread beyond the current boundaries.

She says investigators are on scene determining cause but would not confirm if the fire started at a nearby campsite.

The fire started shortly after noon Tuesday, June 13 and spread rapidly up a hill near Traders Cove on Westside Road. It reached 2.5 ha in size before water bombers and bucket helicopters brought it under control.

No aircraft are working the scene today, June 14, according to Hunse and no structures have been damaged or threatened.

RCMP and fire investigators have not confirmed the fire started at a nearby camp site. | Photographer: Adam Proskiw
