MEXICO CITY – Mexico’s Navy Department has turned over seven marines to prosecutors to face kidnapping charges.
The department says the investigation into the kidnapping ring was carried out in the greater Mexico City area.
The department said late Thursday that the probe indicated the marines had been involved in abductions, but it did not specify who the victims were.
Mexican law stipulates that military personnel charged with crimes against civilians be tried in civilian courts.
In past years, special military courts handled such cases.
