Fresh Okanagan strawberries are finally ready

OKANAGAN – They may be a little late but Okanagan strawberries are finally ready.

Several types of berries made their first appearance at the Kelowna Farmers and Crafters Market last Wednesday, June 7.

Hoa Huynh of Hoa Mai Berry Farm in Vernon says this year’s crop took it’s time getting here.

“Good quality but last year was one week early, this year was one week late,” she says.

Jay Madsen of Jay’s Berry Farm in Lake Country says blueberries will also be late this year and should be ready to pick by the end of the month.

The unusually dreary and wet spring is the reason most crops will be late this year, Madsen says, but quality will be just as good as ever.
