Protesters disrupt work at Enbridge oil pipeline near Hamilton

HAMILTON – Dozens of protesters are disrupting work at an Enbridge oil pipeline outside Hamilton.

Enbridge spokesman Ken Hall says protesters arrived at the pumping station in North Westover early this morning as workers were repairing a valve.

The protesters are opposed to a plan by Enbridge (TSX:ENB) to reverse the flow of oil between Sarnia, Ont. and Montreal.

Hall says that although the group is trespassing on private property, the protest has been calm and peaceful so far.

Hamilton Police spokeswoman Debbie McGreal-Dining says three police officers are on the scene.

Activists say the pipeline runs through First Nations territory and Enbridge did not consult with them before going ahead with their expansion plan.
