CHICAGO – A key player was missing when the Chicago Blackhawks returned to the ice in preparation for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup final.
Star forward Marian Hossa didn’t practice with teammates as he deals with an unspecified injury that caused him to miss Game 3 against the Boston Bruins. Hossa played in Game 4, even though he wasn’t 100 per cent.
Jamal Mayers skated in Hossa’s place for line rushes, but the veteran winger is expected to play in Game 5 Saturday night.
“Hossa’s fine,” coach Joel Quenneville said.
Quenneville said the expectations for Hossa were not reduced despite him playing through injury. He liked how Hossa contributed Wednesday night.
The Blackhawks have not been willing to disclose what is bothering Hossa.
