Penticton police issue traffic caution as weekend approaches

PENTICTON – Penticton RCMP are asking drivers to be patient when it comes to traffic in the city this weekend.

Cpl. Ted Manchulenko says police expect "a big time traffic related weekend" as the Peach City Beach Cruise car show takes place June 23 to June 25.

He says it will start Friday night with the parade of vehicles going from the southend to the northend, which will "mess up traffic a lot."

There is not way around it, Manchulenko says, and he advises motorists to be “a little more patient than normal” for this time of year.

For the rest of the weekend, Lakeshore Drive will be closed to through traffic and police expect lots of people in the downtown core for the Beach Cruise and the Farmer's Market and Community Market.

Manchulenko says there are also fewer places to park downtown with the construction of the Lakeside Resort addition.

“(The Beach Cruise) a great event, but we’re just asking people to be patient. It’s going to be fairly congested downtown,” he says.
