Museum visitors to dismantle, take home pieces of Yoko Ono exhibit

TORONTO – Visitors to a Yoko Ono art exhibit in Toronto will get a chance to take home pieces of the installation as it winds down this weekend.

The Gardiner Museum says the first 500 visitors Sunday will receive white boxes to fill with some of the broken ceramic cups and saucers that made up the exhibit, as well as colourful materials to decorate them.

It will mark the end of “Yoko Ono: The Riverbed,” which encouraged visitors to shape the three-part installation by mending broken ceramics and nailing string into the gallery walls over the past three months.

The museum says Ono created Sunday’s participatory work exclusively for them, and they hope it will allow the “creative energy to be preserved and shared beyond the exhibition’s run.”

Visitors will also be allowed to take photos of the exhibit for the first time.

The exhibition remains Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon before “Cleaning Piece For Gardiner” begins.
