Search ends for missing cruise passenger near Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The U.S. Coast Guard says it has suspended its search for a cruise ship passenger from France suspected of going overboard near Puerto Rico.

The agency said Wednesday that it covered more than 2,000 square miles (5,180 square kilometres) in its search for 74-year-old Jean Pierre Knorr. His wife reported him missing on Monday as the MSC Divina headed to San Juan.

Officials had said that Knorr awoke before dawn and told his wife he was stepping outside for some fresh air. He never returned.
