Heat wave expected across Interior this weekend

The Interior is going to be hit by a heat wave.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning about hot weather across the Southern Interior, including the South Thompson, Nicola, Okanagan Valley and Shuswap.

Maximum temperatures of at least 32 Celsius are forecast, with some ares expected to see the mercury rise into the high 30s. It’s likely some records will be broken, forecasters say.

Envrionment Canada warns young children, pregnant, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people heavily exerting them selves are at a higher risk for adverse affects. People and pets should not be left in cars during the heat wave. Symptoms of heat based illnesses include: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Things will begin to cool off on Tuesday next week with a return to more normal temperatures for this time of year in the Southern Interior which are highs of around 26 C.
