Federal court blocks Alabama execution set for next week
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A federal appeals court has temporarily blocked an execution set for next week in Alabama.
Jeffery Lynn Borden was set to receive a lethal injection on Oct. 5, but the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday stayed the execution through Oct. 19.
Borden is challenging the humaneness of Alabama’s lethal injection procedure. A three-judge panel says the legal process needs time to play out, but its decision stopped short of ruling on any of Borden’s claims.
Borden was convicted of killing wife Cheryl Borden and her father, Roland Harris, in 1993.
Another man, Torrey Twane McNabb, is still scheduled to be executed Oct. 19 for the 1997 killing of Montgomery police Officer Anderson Gordon.
