Record setting Peach City Beach Cruise

PENTICTON – Organizers of the Peach City Beach Cruise are calling the 2017 edition "one for the record books."

The annual car show saw record attendance this year with 780 vehicles, with vintage and collector cars coming from as far away as Nebraska and Texas, according to a media release.

The show was sold out well in advance of the weekend for the first time.

"It was an extremely successful weekend. It's the first year we've sold out two weeks before the show and we had more clubs holding their international conventions here, simultaneoulsy, than ever before," Peach City Beach Cruise president Wayne Wood says in the release.

Wood says weekend weather was about as perfect as could be asked for, encouraging thousands to wander Lakeshore Drive to view the cars.

“Cars were parked the full length of Lakeshore Drive as well as on the adjoining streets and parks. The 'boys and their toys’ had operating displays of vintage tractors, machinery, and stationary engines in Lakawanna Park,” he says, adding Dennis Gage of the TV show My Classic Car filmed an episode of the show at the cruise over the weekend.

The Mayor’s Choice award went to Robin Toor of Surrey, B.C. for his 1928 Ford Model A, while Dave Rasmussen of York, Nebraska won Longest Distance with his 2005 Chevrolet SSR.

The Hard Luck award went to John Racich of Delta, B.C. for his 1968 Pontiac Firebird, and Anthony Hobbs of Penticton won in the Special Recognition category for his 1965 Shelby AC Cobra.
