Blue Jays recall Loup, Hutchison from minors; Schultz optioned, Goins put on DL

TORONTO – Pitchers Aaron Loup and Drew Hutchison were recalled by the Blue Jays on Saturday from Toronto’s triple-A affiliate in Buffalo, N.Y.

Relief pitcher Bo Schultz was optioned to triple-A Buffalo and utility infielder Ryan Goins was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a forearm strain to make space on the Blue Jays roster for Loup and Hutchison.

Goins pitched a scoreless inning of relief in Toronto’s 2-1 19-inning loss to the Cleveland Indians on Friday.

Loup is returning from a left forearm issue that has troubled him since spring training.

Hutchison is expected to be in the bullpen but will move in to the starting rotation when Aaron Sanchez, who has yet to throw for a full Major League Baseball season, reaches his innings limit of 160.

Goins is hitting .176 this season with three home runs, 12 runs batted in and a stolen base.

Schultz has a 3.86 earned-run average in 4 2/3 innings pitched for Toronto this season with five strikeouts.

Hutchison has one appearance for Toronto this season, a 5 2/3 inning win over the Oakland Athletics on April 24 where he struck out five and gave up two runs on four hits.

Loup has a 9.00 ERA in four innings pitched.
