KAMLOOPS  – A blaze in the Dew Drop Trail area west of Kamloops was being held as a controlled burn by B.C. Wildfire, when it unexpectedly took off on Monday.

As of this morning, June 28, crews have the wildfire about 50 per cent contained, according to B.C. Wildfire. The wildfire was mapped at 156 hectares in size.

Several firefighters were on scene yesterday evening, June 27, some walking around and keeping an eye on hot spots.

A surprisingly large number of locals took the opportunity to drive through the scene last night and at one point on the road, at least seven vehicles were parked in one spot. People were outside their vehicles taking photographs of a burning tree.
