UPDATE: Man drowns in Shuswap Lake while on camping trip

SHUSWAP – Over the Canada Day long weekend a man from Surrey drowned while in a swimming area in a local campground.

Police were called on Sunday, July 2 to a campground on Shuswap Lake, according to an RCMP media release. The 37-year-old man was in the designated swimming area when he went missing.

Salmon Arm Search and Rescue were tasked with a shore search while RCMP stayed at the campground.

The man's body was found in Shuswap Lake by the Southeast District Underwater Recovery Team early yesterday morning, July 3.

Police have not released the man's identity or specify which campground he was staying at.

It was a deadly weekend in the Interior, with a separate drowning incident taking place on Canada Day in Kamloops. Police say a 25-year-old man drowned in the South Thompson River after falling into the water.
