Penticton police seeking two men in Naramata winery theft

PENTICTON – A Naramata winery was victimized by a brazen theft involving heavy equipment yesterday.

Penticton RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says the equipment shop of a winery located in the 7400 block of North Naramata Road reported a break in around 5:16 a.m. yesterday, July 2.

A lock on a gate had been cut and a tractor with a front loader was used to lift two ATVs, a pressure washer, a Miller welder, a hoe pack and other equipment onto a flat deck trailer.

A short time later the equipment and the flat deck trailer was located on Sutherland Crescent and recovered, Wrigglesworth says.

The trailer was observed being abandoned there, and is associated with a jacked up, black F350 pickup, which has not been located by police.

Two men were seen with the truck, one of whom has been identified after a witness was able to provide the license plate for the truck.

Wrigglesworth says the second suspect is a man in his 30s with a shaved head and a nice tan.

A Millermatic 251 welder, a chainsaw, line trimmer and hand tools are still missing. The other larger stolen items were found with the trailer.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
