Armstrong manslaughter case on hold until September

VERNON – There won’t be any answers in an Armstrong manslaughter case until at least the end of the summer.

Logan Scott, who is charged with one count of manslaughter in the death of Jillian McKinty, 27, stood trial in Vernon Supreme Court last week but on Thursday, June 29, the case was put over until Sept. 11. Scott is also charged with one count of theft under $5,000 for allegedly stealing McKinty’s laptop.

During the trial, court heard from the pathologist who performed McKinty’s autopsy, an expert on strangulation, and other witnesses.

According to the pathologist, McKinty died of asphyxiation.

During a taped police interview, Scott told investigators that McKinty choked herself with a sweater while they were having sex. The Crown’s expert on strangulation testified that his version of what happened is impossible.

Court heard in earlier proceedings that McKinty and Scott met on the online dating site Plenty of Fish and had a casual relationship.

McKinty was found dead the morning of Nov. 27, 2013 in her Armstrong home. She had two young sons.

The trial resumes in September.
