Judge to hear arguments over past school records in George Zimmerman’s murder trial

SANFORD, Fla. – The judge in the George Zimmerman murder trial will hear arguments from attorneys about whether to admit evidence about a college criminal justice course he previously took that included course work on Florida’s self-defence law.

Judge Debra Nelson is hearing the arguments from attorneys Wednesday morning outside the jury’s presence.

The prosecution says the school records show he had knowledge of the law, though he claimed in a television interview played for jurors Tuesday that he didn’t.

Prosecutors also want to introduce a job application Zimmerman made to a police agency in Virginia and an application to ride around with Sanford police officers.

Zimmerman, a former neighbourhood watch volunteer, is pleading not guilty to second-degree murder. He says he shot Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager, in self-defence.
