Canadian among eight people on boat missing off Honduras

MIAMI – A Canadian is among the eight people on a boat that hasn’t been heard from since setting sail for Utila Island in Honduras this weekend.

The U.S. Coast Guard in Miami says the 8.5-metre boat was also carrying five Hondurans and two Americans when it left the western end of Roatan, Honduras, Saturday afternoon.

The Coast Guard says a family member of the U.S. citizens reported the boat missing.

Spokesman Game Somma says the search covered more than 1,500 square kilometres by Tuesday and is continuing today.

They’ve seen no signs of the missing vessel.

The Honduran navy are also assisting in the search.
