Alternate on Brad Jacobs’ world championship finalist rink suspended for doping

OTTAWA – A member of the Canadian team that won silver at the men’s world curling championships has been suspended for two years after testing positive for a banned substance.

Matt Dumontelle, the alternate on Brad Jacobs’ rink, tested positive for the banned substance methandienone, an anabolic steroid, in a test following the world gold-medal game.

The Canadian Curling Association said in a release that Dumontelle’s positive test does not affect Canada’s world championship silver, nor does it have any ramifications for the Jacobs team.

Dumontelle informed the CCA, World Curling Federation and the World Anti-Doping Agency that he has acknowledged the violation and has waived his right to appeal the finding.

His two-year sanction ends on May 6, 2015. Until then he is ineligible to participate in any sport that is part of the Canadian Anti-Doping Program.

Dumontelle was added to Jacobs’ team following its victory at the 2013 Northern Ontario championship. He did not participate in any games at the world championship.
