Four-year-old boy found unresponsive in backyard pool dies in hospital

COWICHAN BAY, B.C. – A four-year-old boy who was found unresponsive in a backyard swimming pool in Cowichan Bay, B.C., has died in hospital.

Police say the child’s parents were home when he was discovered in the pool at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

He was flown to hospital in critical condition.

Sgt. Chris Swain says the incident appears to have been a tragic accident and that the family’s names will not be disclosed to protect their privacy.

Police are urging people to be familiar with water safety when enjoying summer events such as boating or swimming.

The BC Coroners Service is investigating the death.
