Combine to undergo inspection following fatal North Okanagan crash

SPALLUMCHEEN – Multiple agencies are investigating a fatality involving a farm combine in the North Okanagan, but at this point police say it appears the death was simply an “unfortunate accident.”

Only July 4, 2017 Armstrong RCMP responded to reports of an accident involving a combine on Gulch Road in Spallumcheen, police say in a media release issued today, July 6.

A farm vehicle reportedly left the road and plunged over an embankment, coming to rest on its roof, police say.

The driver, a 64-year-old man, was the only person involved in the crash. He died at the scene.

Emergency health services, the coroner, WorkSafe B.C. and an RCMP Collision Reconstructionist all attended the scene.

“At this point evidence simply indicates that this was an unfortunate accident,” police state in the media release.

The farm combine will be undergoing a mechanical inspection.

The man’s identity has not been released.
