Stratford Festival’s ‘Hirsch’ to play Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August
TORONTO – The Stratford Festival in southwestern Ontario is set to make its Edinburgh debut with the acclaimed play “Hirsch.”
Producers say the show, about late Hungarian-Canadian theatre director John Hirsch, will run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe at the Pleasance from Aug. 1 to Aug. 25.
It will also have a preview at the Berkeley Street Theatre, Upstairs in Toronto on July 19.
Created by award-winning actor Alon Nashman and Governor General’s Award-winning director Paul Thompson, “Hirsch” premiered at the Stratford Festival in 2012.
The festival will present it in Edinburgh and Toronto along with Richard Jordan Productions and Elizabeth Bradley, in association with the Pleasance.
Nashman also stars in the show while Thompson helms.
An orphan of the Holocaust, Hirsch immigrated to Canada and went on to create the Manitoba Theatre Centre and run the Stratford Festival and CBC Drama.
He also directed in New York and Israel.
