Police watchdog to investigate death of man after his arrest by Vancouver police

SURREY, B.C. – B.C.’s police watchdog says a man who was arrested by Vancouver officers has died in hospital.

The Independent Investigations Office says that according to the Vancouver Police Department, the man was taken into custody Friday night after officers witnessed an altercation on the street between two males.

The office says the man then experienced what it calls a significant medical event and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The IIO says it was called when the man was taken to hospital and again when he died early Wednesday.

The office continues to investigate the police-involved death, and the coroners service has yet to determine how he died.
