RCMP targeting drivers of noisy vehicles in Central Okanagan

KELOWNA – RCMP in the Central Okangan are warning owners of excessively loud vehicles to be respectful of others.

And the cops will also be handing out tickets.

RCMP says they receive numerous complaints about excessively loud vehicles and officers have started to take notice of the noisy motorcycles, cars and trucks during their routine enforcement operations.

“We would ask all motorists to drive in a manner that limits vehicle noise and to respect the comfort of their neighbours and the community,” Sgt. Patricia Cook says in a media release.

According to B.C. Motor Vehicle Act Regulations, unnecessary noise from a vehicle’s engine, exhaust system, braking components or as a result of the contact of the vehicles tires with the roadway, may result in the driver or the vehicles registered owner issued with a violation ticket for $109, plus 2 penalty points.

“Our dedicated volunteers will be out in full force, displaying newly created Noise Watch signage, to do their part to educate motorists,” Kelowna RCMP acting crime prevention supervisor Jason Bedell says in the release.

“Volunteers will also be gathering important statistics of potential enforcement locations for the traffic section, while recording the vehicle licence plates of offending vehicles for enforcement officers to follow up on.”
