The Latest: Denver International Airport reopened by police

DENVER – The Latest on the closure of a ramp for departing passengers at Denver International Airport (all times local):

10:20 a.m.

Access to Denver International Airport has been reopened after a police bomb squad checked and cleared a suspicious package.

A ramp for departing passengers was closed Thursday morning and traffic was diverted from the west side of the airport to the east side for several hours.

Ticket counters for American Airlines and Alaska Airlines were closed with no bag check-in while police investigated.

Passenger Jen Ward said she got nervous when she drove up to the airport for a business trip to Chicago and was confronted with a command centre swarming with police and officials.

The bomb squad has been called in to examine a suspicious item found Thursday morning at Denver International Airport where a ramp for departing passengers is closed.

Airport spokesman Heath Montgomery says departing passenger traffic is being diverted from the west side of the airport to the east side while police investigate.

Ticket counters for American Airlines and Alaska Airlines are closed with no bag check-in. Montgomery says the airport is scrambling to find alternate bag check-in places.

The area on the west side of the airport has been roped off while police investigate.
