Knox Mountain fully closed to vehicle traffic due to extreme fire risk

KELOWNA – Knox Mountain Drive is now entirely closed to vehicle traffic due to extreme fire risk.

The top portion of the mountain was closed to vehicle traffic since July 5, however as of the morning, July 11, the bottom portion is closed as well.

“Until the fire danger rating improves, vehicles will not be allowed past the lower gate,” urban forestry supervisor Andrew Hunsberger says in a media release. “Park users and neighbours are asked to be vigilent, and anyone who notices smoke or fire in any park should immediately call 9-1-1 to speak to the fire department or *5-5-5-5 on your cell phone for the B.C. Wildfire Management Branch.”

Knox Mountain Park remains open for hikers and bikers, however Hunsberger is reminding park goers that smoking is prohibited in all parks and public spaces. Barbecues and campfires are also under a provincial fire ban.
