Woman accused of punching female RCMP officer who has broken nose

NANAIMO, B.C. – A 25-year-old woman is in custody over accusations she punched a female RCMP officer in the face in an unprovoked attack at the hospital in Nanaimo, B.C.

Police say the Mountie was investigating an unrelated matter when a woman tapped her on the shoulder and punched her when she turned around.

Police say the woman had just been released from the hospital and is now expected to appear in court.

RCMP are recommending a charge of assault causing bodily harm.

The officer was treated for a broken nose and is expected to be off work for a while.
