Mexico to give women custody of kids while in prison until 3

MEXICO CITY – A new law in Mexico will allow women to have full custody of their children while in prison until they are 3 years old.

But activist are saying the law isn’t generous enough, and believe children should be able to live with their mother until the age of 6.

Many Mexican prisons already allow women who have children to live with them inside the penitentiary until the age of 3. The Senate passed the new law in June giving women additional rights such as the right to pregnancy and lactation, adequate medical attention, and full custody of their children under 3 years old, should the child remain with their mother.
