Woman swims to shore after inflatable raft incident in Thompson River

KAMLOOPS – Despite several emergency officials responding to a rescue on the south shore of the Thompson River last night, a woman was able to swim to shore herself.

Kamloops Fire Rescue Capt. Darryl Cooper says crews responded to Mission Flats around 6 p.m. last night, July 13, to a report of a woman stranded in the river.

They arrived and met with the caller, who had been in the inflatable raft with the woman previously. She told officials her friend was still in the river and needed help.

A rescue boat was deployed, along with two fire engines, two RCMP vehicles and an ambulance. The rescue boat did a loop in the river but found the woman had managed to swim to shore.

It's not known if the woman was wearing a life jacket. She was examined on scene by B.C. Amulance.
