Four anglers hooked as conservation officers enforce fishing limits

LOON LAKE, B.C. – Conservation officers in B.C.’s southern Interior say four anglers are the ones who didn’t get away in the latest fish story from the region.

And there’s no need to exaggerate the size of the catch because investigators say the unfortunate anglers have allegedly violated every possible limit.

Conservation officer Kevin Van Damme says his members were called to a complaint at Loon Lake, about 40 kilometres north of Cache Creek on Thursday.

He says the four anglers were found cutting, smoking and vacuum-packing more than 50 rainbow trout.

The daily limit on the lake is five rainbow trout and the possession limit is twice the daily limit, so Van Damme alleges the group was in clear violation of the rules.

He says the four people have been fined a total of $1,500, their angling equipment was seized and will be forfeited if they are convicted, and all the fish has been donated to an area First Nations community.
