Veteran Toronto FC defender Danny Califf retires, will serve as scout

TORONTO – Veteran Toronto FC defender Danny Califf is calling it quits.

The 33-year-old California native will stick with the team as a scout.

Toronto picked up the 10-year MLS veteran in last December’s re-entry draft.

But his time in Toronto was disrupted by a variety of ailments, resulting in him falling down the depth chart.

Califf also played with the Los Angeles Galaxy, San Jose Earthquakes, Philadelphia Union and Chivas USA.

Overseas, he spent time with two teams in Denmark.

Califf earned 23 international caps for the United States.
