Mexico asks firms to join $43 billion infrastructure
MEXICO CITY – Mexico’s president has asked private companies to join in a plan aimed at building $43 billion in infrastructure by 2024, the end of his term.
The 147 projects include about 42 highways and building or expansion projects at 22 seaports and 29 airports.
Waterworks, telecom and tourism projects make up the remainder of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s plan.
López Obrador said Tuesday he hopes to have about half the projects breaking ground in 2020, with the other half in subsequent years.
Business leaders gathered for the announcement pledged to join in the plan.
López Obrador hopes to kick-start the Mexican economy, which is now formally in recession following four quarters of negative or flat growth.
