Fresh peaches finally ready in the Okanagan

OKANAGAN – You may not be able to visit most Interior parks because of fire risk, or beat the heat on the water due to flooding, but at least fresh Okanagan peaches are finally ready.

Last year almost all stone fruit, including peaches, were ripe at least two weeks earlier than usual, but Roseridge Orchards owner Germaine Hogue says this year things are back to normal.

Peaches are generally harvested mid-July to early August in the South Okanagan and late July through August in the Central and North Okanagan.

“We’re testing every day, just picking one and trying it,” Hogue says. “We’re thinking you should start seeing Kelowna peaches next week.”

If that’s too long to wait, some Osoyoos orchards are advertising the start of their peach season.

Apricots are also recently available leaving only plums, pears and apples left to harvest.
