Bus driver who failed sobriety test and got 90-day driving ban fired from job

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – A Kamloops, B.C., bus driver who failed a sobriety test while on the job has been fired.

BC Transit spokeswoman Mary Beth Burton says the safety of passengers was an important factor in the decision to dismiss the driver.

She had been on the job for five years.

The woman was handed a 90-day driving ban on Saturday morning while FirstCanada, which handles transit operations in Kamloops for BC Transit, conducted an investigation.

A FirstCanada supervisor called the RCMP after he ordered the driver to pull over the empty bus and became suspicious about her condition.

Officers administered a breath test, removed the driver from the bus and imposed the immediate roadside prohibition. (CHNL, The Canadian Press)
