Actress Emma Roberts arrested in ‘unfortunate incident’ in Montreal

MONTREAL – Emma Roberts says she and her boyfriend are trying to move past her arrest during a disturbance at a Montreal hotel.

A statement released on behalf of the actress and boyfriend Evan Peters calls the incident “unfortunate” and the result of a “misunderstanding.”

Roberts was released without charges after being questioning by police in the recent incident, says a statement from her publicist.

Roberts, the niece of Julia Roberts, was in Montreal with Evans, her co-star on TV’s “American Horror Story.” Evans has a role as the superhero Quicksilver in “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” which is filming in Montreal.

Roberts, who is the daughter of Oscar-nominated actor Eric Roberts, is known for her wholesome image in such films as “Nancy Drew,” in which she played the teen detective.

Among her other credits are the horror spoof “Scream 4” and “Valentine’s Day,” in which she appeared with her aunt.

The statement by Christine Tripicchio, vice-president of WKT PR in Los Angeles, acknowledges Roberts was questioned by police but gives no other details.

There was no response by Tripicchio or her staff to other questions pertaining to the incident.

“It was an unfortunate incident and misunderstanding,” the statement said.

“Ms. Roberts was released after questioning and the couple are working together to move past it.”

Montreal police confirm they were called to a hotel in Old Montreal on July 7 to respond to a disturbance.

However, Const. Raphael Bergeron said police would not identify the people involved in the incident, citing privacy reasons.

He said one person suffered minor injuries and the other was taken into custody.

Bergeron said that person was released after questioning and no charges were laid.
