Pipe bands, cadets and dancers salute Canada’s military this weekend in Vernon

VERNON – This weekend, more than 600 performers will march into Kal Tire Place to celebrate our armed forces in one of only two military tattoos in the country.

This is a special event because of Canada's 150, Vernon's 125 birthday and the 100 anniversary of Vimy Ridge, according to a media release from Derek Hall with the Okanagan Military Tattoo.

Starting tomorrow, July 26, Kal Tire place will begin the transition into a performance area, complete with a prop castle. In between venue set up, bands and performers will use the space for rehearsals.

Audience members will be treated to music by the Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy, the RCMP 'E' Division Pipe Band, the 160 member Calgary Round-Up Band and pipe bands from Kelowna, Salmon Arm, Kamloops and Vernon, Hall says.

Dancers of all styles including Highland, Irish, Bhangra, Ukrainian and Polynesian are also part of the production.

There's an evening show on Saturday, July 29 at 7 p.m., and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets are available online at TicketSeller in Vernon at 250-549-7469.
