Aggressive B.C. wildfire activity sparks evacuation order for some Clinton-area homes
KAMLOOPS – A new evacuation order has been issued for a handful of home near Clinton threatened by one of the wildfires raging in B.C.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District issued the order late last night, July 25, for 15 properties northeast of Clinton. The order affects properties on Fenton Road, Linden Road, Mound Road, and Mound-Loon Road.
Residents affected by the latest order are asked to register at an evacuation centre in Kamloops.
The 615-square kilometre Elephant Hill wildfire west of Kamloops has been threatening the region for nearly three weeks and has already destroyed dozens of homes from Ashcroft north to Loon Lake, east of Clinton.
The B.C. Wildfire Service says the blaze is only 30 per cent contained.
Firefighters have been battling this fire since July 6 and currently the attack team consists of 257 firefighters, 15 helicopters and 60 pieces of heavy equipment.
The B.C. Wildfire Service says the cause of the fire is unknown and it continues to burn out of control due to strong winds in the region.
Fires have charred about 3,770 square kilometres of timber, bush and grassland in B.C., since April 1, and about 19,000 people remain out of their homes as crews try to bring more than 150 wildfires under control.
