Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Friday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,685.13 up 56.28 points):

TORC Oil and Gas Ltd. (TSX:TOG). Oil and gas. Down two cents, or 1.32 per cent, at $1.50 on 20.62 million shares. The energy sector was one of the leading advancers rising 1.07 per cent to 261.99 points, buoyed by higher crude oil price. The August contract inched up by a penny to US$108.05 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange after trading as high as US$109.32, its highest price since March 2012.

Connacher Oil and Gold Ltd. (TSX:CLL). Oil and gas. Down half a cent, or 2.56 per cent, at 19 cents on 10.53 million shares.

Talisman Energy Inc. (TSX:TLM). Oil and gas. Up 29 cents, or 2.46 per cent, at $12.07 on 7.82 million shares.

Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Miner. Up 15 cents, or 0.92 per cent, at $16.49 on 6.19 million shares.

Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (TSX:CNQ). Oil and gas. Up 43 cents, or 1.27 per cent, at $34.35 on 5.21 million share.

Toronto Venture Exchange (920.39 up 5.82 points):

EastCoal Inc. (TSXV:ECX). Miner. Up a penny, or 66.67 per cent, at 2.5 cents on 5.89 million shares.

Symbility Solutions Inc. (TSXV:SY). Mobile technology. Unchanged at 41.5 cents on 5.44 million shares.

Company reporting major news:

Tim Hortons (TSX:THI). Coffee and doughnut chain. Down 25 cents, or 0.42 per cent, at $59.16 on 277,228 shares. The popular Canadian coffee chain apologized for blocking a gay and lesbian news website from its free in-store Wifi networks. It blamed the error on a miscommunication with a third-party service provider.
