TV Blog Buzz: Highlights of Comic-Con, finding shows and movies on YouTube

The annual Comic-Con convention in San Diego has really transformed itself from a gathering of comic book and sci-fi geeks into a wide-ranging event that attracts fans of all genres of entertainment.

And it’s also increasingly attracting some of the biggest A-list stars, who go before enthusiastic crowds to talk about (and, of course, promote) their projects.

A couple of the highlights this year included the last-ever panel with the cast of “Dexter,” which is wrapping up its final season. The website HitFix was there and posted a recap (http://bit.ly/13pP5SC) of what stars Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter had to say about retiring their characters Dexter and Deb.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson also reunited on stage to discuss the 20th anniversary of “The X-Files” (http://bit.ly/18sDVRH) and whether they’d rather see the series get another TV season or another movie.

It’s hard to say just how above-board some of the links are and how long they’ll last, but the website Flavorwire has catalogued a huge collection of TV shows that are available to watch on YouTube (http://bit.ly/114F1xp) if you’re struggling to find things to watch on TV this summer. You can stream episodes of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “The Cosby Show,” “Roseanne,” NewsRadio,” “The Golden Girls,” “Scrubs” and “Perfect Strangers.”

A similar list for classic movies (http://bit.ly/15R3shl) includes links to “The 39 Steps,” “His Girl Friday,” “Nosferatu,” “Rashomon” and “Solaris.”

“Community” fans who were thrilled to learn about the triumphant return of show creator Dan Harmon for the comedy’s upcoming season will want to read his in-depth Hollywood Reporter feature (http://bit.ly/14nLjLs), although it’s not exactly flattering. Already notorious as a hard-to-handle control freak, the article’s glimpse into the behind the scenes of the show’s production doesn’t reflect kindly on Harmon. Still, everyone’s glad he’s back in charge to give the show a chance at redemption.
