Kingston, Ont., police investigate hateful letters threatening same-sex couple

TORONTO – Police in Kingston, Ont., are investigating what they call “homophobic” threats made against a same-sex couple.

A police spokesman says the couple received two letters that appear “hate-based” and have shocked the entire Kingston community.

Both letters were circulated on Facebook by the couple and their supporters.

The letters tell the couple to relocate and threaten that efforts to move them will “escalate” if they don’t leave.

One letter claims to be authored by a “small but dedicated group of Kingston residents devoted to removing the scourge of homosexuality in our city.”

Police say the letters could originate from anywhere and detectives from the major crime unit are following every lead.
