Smoke from a Washington fire has travelled to Southern B.C.

KAMLOOPS – Another smokey day in B.C is the result of a large fire in Washington State.

B.C. Wildfire Service reports today, July 30. that the smoke, which is highly visible in the Penticton Fire Zone and in much of southern B.C., has travelled from the United States and is expected to remain in the area. For more information about wildfires burning in the U.S. please click here.

Because of the situation, it is challenging to detect new fires. B.C. Wildfire Service requests that if anyone sees new fires, an open flame, or a distinct column of smoke to report it to *5555 or 1-800-663-5555 as soon as possible and provide as much detail as possible.

The fire danger ratings are still "high" to "extreme," according to the Kamloops Fire Centre. Forecast predictions are hot and dry and are expected to remain so for the next several days. All human-caused fires are preventable and can divert critical resources from naturally occurring wildfires.

The BC Wildfire Service reminds the public that campfires are prohibited throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre.
