Modular home burns in Osoyoos orchard
OSOYOOS – Osoyoos firefighters battled a modular home fire on the weekend.
Fire Chief Rick Jones says the department was called to an orchard on 146 Avenue around 7:30 p.m., Sunday, July 30 where a single-wide mobile home was in flames.
“It was a complete loss. We had trouble extinguishing it because there were three large propane tanks attached to the back of the unit, and that’s where the fire was,” Jones said, adding a power line also burned and fell to the ground, lighting grass on fire.
“We couldn’t get close to that for fear of electrocution, until Fortis got to the scene,” he said, noting the power company arrived quickly.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the area around the unit.
Eighteen firefighters battled the blaze for about three and a half hours. No injuries were reported and the fire remains under investigation.
