Water quality advisory issued for Ellison

KELOWNA – Ellison is no longer under a boil water notice.

On March 10, a boil water notice was issued for Ellison, however, according to a Glenmore-Ellison Improvement District press release issued today, July 31, this notice has been downgraded to a water quality advisory.

Approximately 175 rural Ellison properties have been downgraded. This includes all properties serviced by GEID located east of Old Vernon Road, north of Anderson Road, the Country Rhodes and Country View Estates Stratas.

A water quality advisory is still in place for the following properties:

4451 to 4563 Postill Drive
5981 Old Vernon Road
Country Rhodes Strata at 6100 Old Vernon Road
Country View Estates at 6400 Spencer Road
Dry Valley Road
Gale Road

A water quality advisory is used when there is a modest threat to public health. It is issued when actions, other than boiling water, can be taken to reduce the risks.

The release says that under this advisory water is considered fair because water is cloudy. Interior Health recommends that children between the ages of zero to 122, elderly over the age of 65 and people with weakened immune systems boil their water for one minute or seek a safe alternative. Public facilities must post Water Quality Advisories at all sinks or drinking water fountains accessible to the public or they must be turned off, according to the Glenmore-Ellison Improvement District. Also, clientele should be informed.

Monitoring and disinfection are ongoing throughout Glenmore-Ellison Improvement District's distribution system.
