Man with no arms still wants apology from officer who gave him seatbelt ticket

SASKATOON – A Saskatchewan man with no arms who won his seatbelt battle in court says he’s not done fighting.

Steve Simonar (SIHM’-oh-nahr) of Saskatoon still wants an apology from the city officer who gave him the ticket.

And he wants the constable reprimanded for what Simonar describes as an offensive and abrasive attitude.

The 55-year-old businessman was driving a modified vehicle using his feet when the officer gave him the $175 fine during a traffic blitz in April.

A Crown prosecutor recently withdrew the ticket in court after the province gave Simonar an exemption allowing him to drive without wearing a belt.

Simonar says he has nothing against police — just this one officer.

He says his truck was stolen last week and officers were polite and professional in handling the theft.
