Motorists put out roadside fire on Highway 3A
PENTICTON – It doesn’t take much to start a wildfire these days.
Kaleden firefighters were called to a grass fire on July 26 that began when the tire assembly of a single axle travel trailer blew apart while travelling Highway 3A near Marron Valley Road.
The hot metal parts, which included electric brake and wheel bearing components, were thrown across the road, setting off two fires.
Kaleden Fire Chief Denis Gaudry says the quick actions of the vehicle owner and other passers-by were able to contain the blaze using fire extinguishers and bottled water.
“These members of the public did a great job,” Gaudry said, adding firefighters only had to ensure the fire, which had burned a 15 x 5 metre area, was out.
