Firefighters make quick work of grassfire in Penticton

PENTICTON – Penticton Fire Department and members of the Penticton Indian Band Fire Department are mopping up a wildfire that broke out this morning.

Deputy Fire Chief Chris Forster says the department was notified around 7:40 a.m. of reports of flames and smoke on a hillside just south of Sunglo Drive in West Bench.

Firefighters arrived to find an area about 50 by 100 metres in flames.

"Our crews worked it from below, while the Penticton Indian Band attacked it from the top of the ridge," Forster says, adding fire behaviour was moderate, allowing crews to get a handle on the blaze quickly.

B.C. Wildfire crews also attended the scene.

Forster says no homes were threatened.
