Man shot by police during incident in Montreal

MONTREAL – A 70-year-old man has been shot by police during an incident in Montreal.

Montreal police spokeswoman Anie Lemieux says officers were responding to a call near downtown about a man expressing suicidal thoughts.

She says there was an altercation — and police fired at least one shot.

She says the man was struck in the lower body.

The man has been taken to hospital and, she says, his life is not believed to be in danger.

The incident will now be investigated by the provincial police — as is the norm in a shooting involving the Montreal force.
