Penticton RCMP investigating several attempts to break and enter across the city

PENTICTON –  Penticton RCMP responded to several calls for break and enters that took place overnight on Aug. 6.

But while numerous break ins were reported, thieves appeared to gain little in the incidents.

Police spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says police responded to Valley Ink Tattoo on Martin Street, where sometime overnight Aug. 6 the air conditioning unit was pushed aside and someone entered the building.

Cash and a DVR was reported missing.

Police are reviewing video evidence and forensic officers are continuing their investigation.

A break in was also reported at the Japanese Kura Restaurant on Main Street. A window was damaged, but nothing was reported missing.

Perrin Orthodontics on Main Street also reported a break and enter after a door was pried open. Nothing was reported missing.

Louise’s Bridal Fashions reported an attempted break and enter to police after a rear door was tampered with, but not forced open. No entry was gained.

A Penticton resident also called police at 7:45 a.m. yesterday to report someone trying to start an ATV at a neighbouring residence on Naish Drive. The resident was aware the next door neighbours were not at home.

Police responded to find a motorbike with its ignition wiring torn out. A search of the neighbourhood revealed a suspect walking down the street carrying a motorcycle helmet, with no reasonable explanation for being on the street.

A search revealed the 44 year old man, who had an outstanding warrant from Kelowna, to be carrying break and enter tools.

The  man is currently in custody as the matter is investigated.

Penticton RCMP report a busy but largely routine civic holiday long weekend.

Cpl. Wrigglesworth says police responded to a large number of calls over the weekend but had sufficient police resources on hand to manage, with no major incidents to report.

He said additional resources will be on hand for the rest of the week as Peach Festival gets underway Wednesday.
