Man charged with aggravated assault that left victim with serious head injuries

VERNON – A charge has been laid in connection with a violent assault that sent a man to hospital with a fractured skull.

Lucas Slizak, 23, faces a charge of aggravated assault in relation to a Sept. 21 incident at Monashee’s Bar and Grill.

The victim, a 23-year-old Vernon man, was allegedly punched, kicked in the head and left unconscious with a fractured skull and broken nose at the bar. According to RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk, the victim continues to receive treatment for serious head injuries.

Police spoke with possible witnesses and arrested a 23-year-old suspect. The individual was released without charges.

Slizak appeared in court Oct. 1 and was released on conditions, including a no contact order with the victim, a curfew and an order to abstain from alcohol.

“The Vernon RCMP want to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation and request anyone who may have witnessed the assault at the bar that night to contact the Vernon RCMP and provide details of this assault,” Molendyk said.
