Marine Atlantic ferry strikes wharf in Newfoundland, no injuries reported

PORT AUX BASQUES, N.L. – Marine Atlantic says one of its passenger ferries has run aground while leaving Port aux Basques in southwestern Newfoundland.

The ferry service says the MV Blue Puttees is stable and no injuries have been reported.

Marine Atlantic spokesman Darrell Mercer says the ferry was carrying 398 passengers and 91 crew members when it hit the wharf at 8:32 a.m. local time.

He says damage does not appear to be significant.

Local emergency officials have responded.

Mercer says Transport Canada has been notified as an investigation into the cause of the incident continues.
